Hurricanes are not a rare event in NOLA. It is important to have “Stay” and “Go” Kits for your entire family. Gather essential items and store them in a safe area with easy access. Each family's kit may look different based on each family's needs. Make special allowances for pets, babies, and the elderly and update them as your family grows.
“Stay” Kit: Place in a waterproof bin-
- Food; Rotate non-perishable food
- Manual can opener
- Water; one gallon per person, per day, for three days
- First Aid Kit
- Flashlight and Extra Batteries
- Shelter(Plastic sheeting, duct-tape, Tent, Sleeping bag/ Blanket)
- Phone Chargers
- Emergency Weather Radio
- Matches
- Fans that don't need electricity
- Entertainment that doesn't need electricity
“Go” Kit: Place in Duffle bag or backpack
Walking or Driving? Make a Car Kit.
- Food, Three-day supply
- Manual can opener
- Mess kit
- Matches in plastic slide-lock bag
- Water; one gallon per person, per day for three days

- Sewing Kit
- Swiss Army knife or folding pocket tools
- Work gloves/Tools
